They are mixed. What matters is that they strive to be good. And admit their mistakes. Ruth believes that drugs are objectively bad, and that the state should force people, particularly the poor, to stop using them. Ruth believes that the birth rate was too high in the 1960s and 1970s among poorer populations, so they created a right to abortion where none existed before, solely out of social necessity. They identified a problem and fixed it, most likely aborting an entire generation of criminals as a result. She alluded to this fact in interviews and was forced to apologize and backtrack, but her intent was clear (basically, she was borderline racist and possibly a eugenicist, similar to Margaret Sanger at the time of Roe v Wade). Was she the perfect person? Of course not, but she deserves respect for standing up for her beliefs, even if you strongly disagreed with her. Her ideology was that the constitution should be a living document that adapts to society’s rapid changes. If not, society is more likely to fail due to inflexibility and ideological rigidity.
